LKB's experience in solid waste management spans the entire solid waste cycle-from initial planning, development and permitting of landfills and transfer stations, through landfill management, gas extraction, and soil and groundwater monitoring, to groundwater remediation, landfill closure, capping and site redevelopment.

For decades, LKB has been a leader in every phase of landfill management, from site design and cell construction to monitoring, capping, closure and remediation. The Town of Hempstead's Merrick Landfill/Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve conversion is a prime example of this. LKB's newest landfill closure project is drawing attention from an enthusiastic public as well as from the solid waste community itself.

At our landfill projects, LKB's expertise is at work at every landfill stratum—down to the cell liners whose use we helped pioneer, to advanced monitoring well systems and full-scale pump-and-treat groundwater remediation, such as the system we designed, implemented, and currently operate at the Town of Oyster Bay's Old Bethpage Solid Waste Disposal Facility. Once rated as New York State's top Superfund site, the Old Bethpage landfill was also the first in the state to receive USEPA approval for its LKB-engineered closure and remediation program-still going strong after almost a decade of operation.
